SPONSORS FOR EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY INC
Mission Statement
SEO was founded in 1963 as one of NYC’s first high-school-to-college mentoring organizations. Our mission is creating a more equitable society by closing the academic and career opportunity gap for motivated young people from underserved and/or underrepresented communities. SEO provides superior educational and career programs to such young people, addressing inequities in education and opportunity that often limit their success. Today, SEO operates four primary programs: • SEO Scholars, a free eight-year academic program that gets low-income public high school students to and through college–with a 90% college graduation rate. 100% of Scholars are accepted to four-year colleges and 85% are first-generation college graduates. Over 75% of current SEO Scholars are attending competitive colleges. • SEO Career, the nation’s premier professional development program providing Black, Hispanic/Latinx, and Native American undergrads with everything they need to land a competitive internship: industry exposure, career guidance, interview skills, and training. 80% of SEO Career interns receive FT job offers from SEO partners. • SEO Alternative Investments (AI), which has a Fellows program that mentors and trains top underrepresented analysts to compete for coveted positions in private equity and alternative investments. Over 90% of Fellows secure full-time jobs in the alternatives sector. • SEO Law, the only program of its kind to provide talented incoming law school students of color with a paid internship at a top law firm during the summer before law school. Today, with over 14,000 alumni globally through its U.S. programs and international affiliates, SEO provides a broad range of educational and career development opportunities to a combined total of thousands of high school students, college students, and young professionals. Alumni are well-represented as leaders in virtually every profession, using their success to create opportunities for the next generation.
