THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH FLORIDA FOUNDATION INC
Mission Statement
Our non-profit (501(c)3) organization is called Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) of North Florida and is led by Johnson & Johnson Vision Care employees – in partnership with the University of North Florida (UNF) and several other local organizations, including the American Association of University Women (AAUW), The Girls Scouts of America, and Miller Electric Co. Each year, EYH of North Florida hosts an annual Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) workshop in the spring. The goal of this workshop is to encourage young women in middle schools to consider and pursue STEM studies and careers. As part of the workshop, the girls get a chance to interact with female adult STEM role models, as well as, participate with their peers in high quality, hands-on activities that are designed to engage them in discovering the fun and relevance of STEM. The 2016 EYH North Florida Workshop will be held on March 5, 2016. The workshops for this year will cover the importance of water quality and testing for impurities, circuit design, and the strength of shapes in construction. We have shattered our records and are hosting 200 participants this year - with another 50-60 more on our wait list (we cannot add them due to space limitations). We are also helping to sponsor girls from organizations such as the College Reach-Out Programs, Pace Center for Girls, and Girls Inc., as well as, providing registration fee assistance to girls from economically challenged families. We want to reach as many girls as possible and show them that STEM is fun and real possibility for them. As an aside: We would *LOVE* Mr. Khan to see us in action and perhaps say a few words to the girls about the importance of STEM since he is an engineer and very successful businessperson. One can only hope..... :) Thanks for your time.
