LACKAWANNA COLLEGE
Mission Statement
Lackawanna College is a private, 501(c)(3) non-profit, open-enrollment institution which provides a quality education to all who seek to improve their lives and better the communities in which they live. Founded in 1894, Lackawanna offers eight bachelor’s degree programs and 25 associate degree programs, as well as a variety of certificate programs and continuing education opportunities in a wide range of disciplines. Lackawanna College has an annual enrollment of approximately 1,900 students. In addition to its Main Campus in Scranton, the College offers locations in Hazleton, Hawley, Sunbury, Towanda, Tunkhannock, and Covington Township. In fall 2017, the College began offering its first-ever bachelor’s degree programs, and record-breaking enrollments followed. The College has a history of adapting to the region's needs by quickly developing programs to meet the demand for high-priority regional jobs. In July 2025, Lackawanna College merged with Peirce College, (a private, Philadelphia-based institution dedicated exclusively to serving adult learners through online programs) which expanded its presence to serve students online and made the College Pennsylvania’s largest private, nonprofit, open enrollment institution.
