ALAMEDA WORLD TOURNAMENT BASEBALL INC
Mission Statement
This tournament had its genesis in 1973 when the Japan Boys League sent a team of 14 and 15 year olds to California to play a series of friendship games. Alameda first became aware of these games in 1977 and ended up hosting games and home-staying Japanese players during their next trip in 1979. In 1981 a small tournament was held in Gardenia, California, featuring teams from Japan, Mexico and California. By this time, it was common practice for the host country to home-stay international players. In 1982 an informal organization called the International Boys League was formed whose purpose was, and remains today, to foster international goodwill and friendship by holding a youth baseball tournament each year. Our fundraiser has a goal of helping to offset the costs per player to attend the tournament this year in Italy.
