CHEYNE C JOHNSTON FOUNDATION FOR TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY RECOVERY
Mission Statement
Our goal is to provide financial, emotional and physical support to Cheyne and others like him in our community who find themselves in need and have nowhere else to turn for help with dealing with a traumatic brain injury. We would like to specifically address the needs of the most severe end of the TBI spectrum as there is little to no help or research available for these patients. 90% of people who suffer a diffuse axonal injury (DAI) like Cheyne die from their injury and the other 10% who do survive never get beyond vegetatative state. Cheynes is unique as we are seeing but needs 24 hour care. The Foundation provides support in ways like: TBI Care Packages distrubuted to ICU units in San Diego County, Seminars have been developed to further train professionals in this field, Website resources provide support groups and webinars on bet practices of the healing process, a scholarship program has been set up for those wanting to study in the TBI field of medicine and finally, financial support for Cheyne and his recovery.
