Jefferson Health Opportunities, Prevention, and Education (JeffHOPE)

We passionately commit ourselves to treat the underserved men, women, and children of Philadelphia, embracing the values of kindness, equality, and excellence. We accomplish this mission by providing free, quality care to all, through student-run clinics; educating our patients on their health and how to maintain it; advocating for improved patient care; and teaching each other to become stronger clinicians. We aim to empower these individuals to regain their footing and climb out of poverty. JeffHOPE was conceived in 1991 by a group of Jefferson medical students with the goal of providing health and social services to the underserved populations of Philadelphia. In the subsequent 24 years, our organization has expanded from a single site to include six clinics held at homeless shelters across the city. We are assisted in our mission of providing dignified, free, accessible healthcare by over 700 volunteer medical students, physical therapists, and pharmacists as well as 100 clinical faculty members from Jefferson. With their help, we are able to serve more than 5,000 men, women, and children every year. We aim to address all of the acute and long-term needs of our patients by providing healthcare, vaccinations, insurance, health education, and referrals to primary care.
