Mission Statement
The Friends of the Salt Lake County Children’s Justice Center (Friends) is a 501c3 charitable nonprofit established in 1993 with a mission to support child victims of crime served at the Salt Lake County Children’s Justice Center (CJC) through program support funds and awareness. The CJC was created in 1991 and is mandated by Utah Law 67-5b-102 to be a public/private partnership as child abuse is a community problem requiring community support. The state partially funds the basic program operations and subcontracts to local county governments for administration. The Salt Lake County CJC is administered by the Salt Lake County District Attorney who provides additional funding for personnel and some operational costs and manages the federal grant awards. The Friends exists to provide the additional support required to fully fund and operate the CJC programs. Through fundraising and grant writing efforts, the Friends provide funding to support critical staff positions to deliver crisis services and specialized forensic interviewing, client emergency funds, furnishings and toys, contracted language translation services, specialized training for staff, office supplies, technical recording equipment, and capital projects. Additionally, we support Camp Hope, a program designed to help children from abusive and traumatic situations learn resiliency, gain hope, and break the cycle of abuse.
