Friends of Pediatrics Northwest - Reach Out and Read
Mission Statement
Reach Out and Read (ROR) is a national evidence-based program supporting early literacy in the medical home for children and their parents from birth to 5 years old. It is carried out during well-child exams as the doctor starts the check up with a brand-new book given to the child. We model reading aloud to the parents and dovetail developmental guidance to the family using the book. While we are able to purchase these wonderful new books at a discounted cost from publishers who are connected to ROR efforts across the state and country, our book budget each year is sizable and involves many fundraising efforts. All donated funds and items for our ROR program are used to help purchase developmentally and culturally appropriate books for our ongoing Reach Out and Read efforts at Pediatrics Northwest, PS.
