Mission Statement

The Society of St.Vincent de Paul of Alameda County, California (SVdP) is a registered 501c3 nonprofit organization that has served the county’s community since 1938. Our mission centers around supporting those experiencing poverty and homelessness. We have been successful in accomplishing our mission by offering supplementary programs to improve the livelihood of those we serve. At our West Oakland facility, we offer a free meal service 5 days a week feeding 600 people daily. Our community center provides several programs that serve women, men, and children. In the community center we offer free clothing for all ages, showers, hygiene products, mail services, and a laundry service. We also assist families with baby items such as diapers and formula. The community center assists with basic needs for 1,500 people monthly. There is also a social worker on site to help anyone requesting housing or treatment programs. SVdP also provides overnight shelter seven days a week that houses up to 1,260 unhoused Oakland residents monthly. As part of our effort to uplift the community, we also offer a job training program, Kitchen of Champions, which teaches culinary skills and professional development year-round to 60 individuals annually.
